Reliable, High-Accuracy Fixed Site (Automated License Plate Recognition (ALRP) Solution

  • Reads multiple lanes of traffic simultaneously
  • Reads license plates day and night
  • Reads license plates 24/7 under all weather conditions
  • Reads license plates on vehicle traveling up to 130 mph

A prime example of NDI Recognition Systems' application of fixed ALPR systems is London's ‘Ring of Steel.’ It protects London’s financial and banking sector. The roadside system is capable of processing and recognizing license plates in very high speed and high density traffic environments. NDI-RS ALPR technology could also be ‘ superimposed’ on to an existing CCTV infrastructure, using existing cameras and control room infrastructure – a highly cost-effective way of delivering ALPR benefits to a community.

In a typical fixed system, two ALPR C3 Series cameras with overview and infrared (IR) can be permanently installed overlooking a roadway. These are then connected back with a dedicated roadside or pole mounted Plate Recognition Unit (PRU) such as the Scorpion. This is a processor with Talon recognition software. The PRU is normally contained in a secure, environmentally-conditioned cabinet at the roadside or safely mounted on a pole or underneath a bridge.

The final element of the system is communication from the roadside back to the control rooms or operations office. This is achieved using hard-wired based systems such as DSL or fiber optic transmission or cable, or by using wireless technology such as air cards, WiFi or microwave transmission. When vehicles of interest pass the camera locations the system will alarm and alert the operator when a ‘’hit’ occurs on the hotlist (database). The hotlist also lets the user search all captured license plates, which is important for post-incident investigations.

The NDI-RS fixed site ALPR solution is designed to monitor specific sites and captures points, such as motorways, bridges, tunnels and key road junctions or key points of interest.
