Automated License Plate Recognition (ALPR) Technology provides a big boost to Homeland Security

From the identification of potential terrorists, to surveillance of critical infrastructure locations, NDI's ALPR solutions have numerous Homeland Security applications. NDI ALPR systems capture license plates and compare them instantaneously to hotlists, thus providing law enforcement a critical investigative tool. ALPR applications include: mobile systems affixed to patrol cars, portable covert systems and static or fixed ALPR systems. These fixed systems can be mounted to power poles, street signs, bridges, gates and other high traffic areas.

ALPR assists a community's law enforcement agencies by creating a security perimeter in cities, ports, borders and other vulnerable areas. NDI systems feature a dynamic VeriPlate Intelligence Server and Communications Engine (VISCE), which provides an important intelligence database of information captured by ALPR cameras, including: color overview images of vehicles, date and time stamps and GPS coordinates.

The VISCE Back Office is of long-term strategic importance as a crime-solving tool:

  • Placing a suspect at a scene
  • Development of watch lists
  • Pattern recognition
  • Identifying witnesses

Single click "Live Check" verifies alerts with NCIC in real time. Full Geo Mapping facilities can be used for crime pattern analysis, tracking suspect movement, monitoring and more. Plus, NDI is leading the way with data sharing across agencies and is leveraging technology as a key component of Homeland Security and anti-terrorism strategies.
