Talon Version 8.2 ANPR Engine Release for General Availability
Demonstrating its commitment to continuous development, NDI Recognition Systems (NDI-RS), the leading ANPR (Automatic Number Plate Recognition) provider, has announced the latest release of their proprietary ANPR engine called Talon. The Talon ANPR engine version 8.2 delivers a leaner, more powerful and efficient number plate recognition technology.
The new software release includes enhancements to performance, international reading capability and a simplified set-up.
Performance and Efficiency Improvements
The new Talon V8.2 engine release features a newly re-structured engine code which is optimized to have a lower processor overhead and a minimal memory footprint. The new release delivers optimal performance and efficiency for a variety of ANPR applications. Fixed ANPR systems based on industrial processors, in-vehicle ANPR on Mobile Data Terminals (MDT) or portable solutions for laptops will display an equally powerful and smooth performance enhancement. The Talon V8.2 engine accommodates multiple lane capture on any system configuration and provides a high level of accuracy and performance without quality degradation. The engine supports ANPR reading from both the IR and the colour cameras feeds, which is especially important in smaller projects or countries with non-retro reflective number plates. The ANPR system can be quickly built-up for a small scale project and if necessary, expanded further, to critical solutions with multiple lanes and hundreds of ANPR cameras delivering powerful performance and high accuracy of capture.
Improved International Reading Performance
Using sophisticated probabilistic context checking techniques, the Talon V8.2 engine can be trained and configured for multinational number plate recognition allowing rapid deployment into new countries and territories. The neural networks are not programmed in the traditional sense, but are trained by example using live, real word traffic feeds and computer simulations on an extremely large number of repetitions. With an established customer portfolio in the UK and Europe and to reflect the international growth of the business, the new Talon V8.2 release demonstrates an improved international reading capability for North and South America, EMEA and the Asian territories. This new release generates a higher capture rate and an increased recognition accuracy of non-standard, non-retro reflective or branded plates typically found outside the European Union.
Flexible 3rd party integration and Simplified Set-up
The new Talon V8.2 release features several additions to the system set-up and integration. The new engine introduces the Configuration Editor application that simplifies and automates system set-up. The Configuration Editor provides system administrators with a user-friendly set-up menu and multiple automated pre-sets for a complete installation and editing. In addition, the Talon V8.2 ANPR Engine provides a flexible platform for 3rd party applications to interface with the Talon V8.2 engine using the Talon software development toolkit. The Talon software development toolkit provides a lightweight way for Talon to interact with different 3rd party software applications delivering new products to the market based on vehicle number plate recognition technology. The 3rd party applications could benefit from the Talon software development toolkit that allows sightings to be ‘read’ from Talon via a named pipe interfaced with a new software.
