NDI-RS providing an Accurate and Efficient Congestion Charging Application
With a growing number of vehicles and pollution on our roads, road user charging and congestion charging is becoming one of the leading applications utilising ANPR technology. The NDI-RS TALON ANPR system can be used as an accurate high speed number plate reading system logging many thousands of number plates every hour.
In the case of the NDI-RS Maltese Congestion Charging Scheme the ANPR captures are cross checked against a stored database in order to verify pre-payment or eligibility for discounts and exemption. At the end of charging hours, a reconciliation process takes place to eliminate matching records, ie the number plate reads with the payments made. This means that a vast majority of images recorded are deleted without ever having been scrutinised by the human eye. If there is no match, the licensing office provides a list of registered keepers associated with those vehicles and then penalty charges are issued.
There is no need for any additional equipment or vehicle based ANPR as payments can be made by Internet or phone.
