The various ANPR systems can be installed in a variety of places on a vehicle, including the roof, inside a vehicle or covertly hidden. The ANPR equipment utilises the same technology as used by the Police Service in the United Kingdom. Details of Penalty Charge Notices (PCN) or missing vehicles are uploaded to the system quickly and efficiently, usually through a USB port in .csv format.
If a number plate is matched against a 'hotlist' database, an audible alarm is generated and full details of the offence is immediately displayed on the in-car monitor, giving the enforcement officer (bailiff) the opportunity to intervene and, clamp, detain or impound the vehicle.
